Assalamualaikum readers,

Pagi-pagi tadi, sempat singgah di wall kawan2 di FB. Tiba-tiba jantungku berdebar-debar bila terpandang satu update ni.

"SPM 68 hari lagi"

Dan debaran semakin kencang. Kata orang, SPM penentu segala.

It reminds me, back in 1993, when I tendered my resignation as an Analyst Programmer to my immediate superior at a well known bank, prior to joining my existing working place, that one sentence really proofs how knowledge able to place muslims at a better place. What was the sentence?

"Marina, before this, I was a little bit skeptical about hiring you. But you have proven that people with hijab like the one you were wearing now, can do a good jod. Honestly and obediently. I will not hesitate to employ another one like you in the future."

These were the humble words that was uttered by my boss, a non-muslim. And the words are still fresh in me. I was surprise to listen to this, and a bit upset at how he looks at muslims who covered themselves back then. And I am grateful that I have given him a good impression on us, the practising muslim. I'm sure things are different now. But it proofs how we can earn respect through knowledge.

Apakah ilmu itu? Ilmu Allah itu luas, bukan sekadar ilmu SPM jadi ukuran. Pun begitu, aku tetap berdoa, mengharapkan kejayaan cemerlang anakku.

"Ya Allah. Aku berserah hanya padaMU. Kau permudahkan segala urusan anakku dalam menghadapi peperiksaan SPMnya kelak. Kau kurniakanlah yang terbaik untuk anakku. Terbaik untuk kehidupan dunia dan akhiratnya. Semoga dengan kurniaanMU ini, anakku akan menjadi hambaMU yang solehah, semoga beliau kelak menjadi pejuang agamaMU. "
Amin, Ya Rabbal 'Al Amin.

Happy Belated Birthday!!

Assalamualaikum all,

Happy Belated Birthday to me!!

With the increase in the number of years lived on this world, one thing for sure is that the decrease of days left for me to breathe on this world. Am I ready to move on to another world? A world to reap what we have sowed on this world. A world that is permanent??? I am striving towards it, ya Allah, insyaAllah.

Busy with the Eid celebration, Mak fell sick, house broken into, there is still a piece of happiness in togetherness. Thank you Mr hubby for this wonderful dinner treat. May we are blessed with Rahmah, Maghfirah and Barakah, and live happily ever after, just like the ending of a fairy tale. Ameen.

Photo captured using my humble Mr Handphone. Sorry for the quality.

Alhamdulillah. Kids enjoying their dinner after were forced to starve in the evening.

Assalamualaikum dear readers,
With a very sad and weeping heart Ramadhan 1433 has finally left us. May Allah grant us anither Ramadhan for us to race for the handsome reward again, insyaAllah. For now, let us hope that we will be able to continue all the good deeds that we have trained ourself to do during the last Ramadhan.
My Raya is a very unusual one, a very different experience, a very solemn rememberance. Anyway, I accept the fate as a test from Allah SWT. May with this it will make me a better muslim.
First, its different because its the first raya without Bapak. Mak was not cheerful at all. Mak burst into a cry during the last iftar leaving all of us speechless. After solat, tarawikh and eid, i looked out to where Bapak was laid to rest (which is very near to the Masjid) longing to be closed to him, to talk to him, to hold his hands but i accept it as atest from Allah for if we really love Bapak its not only about talking or holding his hands, dua is what he is hoping now.
Second, since Bapak was gone, Mak is regularly not feeling very well. And on the first day of eid, after Asr, we took mak to KPJ and was advised to get admitted as there is a sign of stroke. And now its a raya without Mak at ourside. We then camp ourself in KPJ. Alhamdulillah after a thorough medical test Mak was declared free from the stroke sign but nerve problem. Till today, mak is still not feeling very well and when all her other children got to make a move to other destinations, abang took the responsibility to take care of mak and brought mak back to his house. We owe you a lot Abang.
4th day we travel back to Shah Alam, crawling the highway leaving mak who is till unhealthy. Approaching the house at almost 11.30pm we saw the lights on the first floor was turned on. We were wondering whether we have left it that way. When I went to open the gate I saw that the grill of the front door is opened. I frantically ran to my husband who is waiting in the car and inform him what i saw. I was already shivering when my husband called the police for assistance. After an investigation, it was confirmed that the house was broken into. The master bedroom was ransacked. Some of the valuables and momentos were missing. Redha. This is just another small test as a show of love from Allah. If we are able to accept this, may we be rewarded. Ameen.
Life is about a test. Redha.

Assalamualaikum dear readers,

How do you feel when sitting in any event, and everybody around you starts addressing you as 'KAKAK'? How do you feel?

10 years ago, I feel awkward to be called 'MAKCIK' by the little ones. But when the college students, the shop assisstant or cashier started to call you 'MAKCIK' how is that suppose to make you feel???? :-)

It's no other than the sign of aging has written on your face. I am not ashamed to tell everybody my age. What is there to hide? I am 43. Ooopppps ....... reaching 44 in 3 days time. Age should reflect in how wise you are in dealing things or situation. And some says that patience do relate with age. Do not just only relate age to your physical appearance. It should be how you have built your Intelligent Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ) and most importantly your Spiritual Quotient (SQ) along the way. As a muslim, I believe a balance in all the three quotients is a MUST. In order to achieve the balance does not necessarily require a certificate from any ESQ training. Whether we realize it or not, we have went through the training for all of the three aspects along our life. It is just how much we have gathered the knowledge which differentiate each of us. And as a Muslim, not only GATHERING matters, what matters most is PRACTICING what you have gathered.

40 is a big number. There's a saying that if you do not change to be a better person when you reach 40, you'll never change and become a loser in Allah's eye. Na'uzubillahi min zalik (I seek protection from Allah from the matter). Change may be done drastically or gradually, most importantly, you must set in your mind and determine to change for a better person. A better husband or wife, a better parent, a better son or daughter, a better neighbour, a better friend, a better employee, BETTER in all aspect of life as a muslim. It's BETTER not BITTER , ok.

40 is a significant age. Even in the al-Quran age 40 was mention in one of the verses of the Surah Al-Ahqaf, verse 15:

Al-Ahqaf: 15
We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents. In pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth. The carrying of child to his weaning is (a period of) thirthy months. At length , when he reaches the age of full strength and attains forty years, he says, "O Lord, grant me that I may be grateful for your favour which you have bestowed upon me, and upon both my parents, and that I may work righteousness such as You may approve; and be gracious to me in my issue. Truly have I turned to You and truly do I bow (to You) in Islam".

Amin Ya Rabbul 'Al Amin

For those who are in the 40s or above, lets recite the dua' after out solat.

p.s. I dont mind the age, but i still dont like to be called MAKCIK .... ha ha

Bila nak balik kampung?

Assalamualaikum dear readers,

"Bila nak balik kampung?" "(When are you going back to your hometown?")
"Bila mula cuti?" ("When do you begin your annual leave?")

Perhaps, these two questions are the most asked question within these few days. Office starts to feel deserted. Walking alone in the quiet corridor is a normal situation now. Gone are the hectic, loud and busy days. No students sprawling around the campus, at least until September. I thought I was the first to take leave, but NO, I am wrong, my colleagues start their Eid leave as early as Monday (13 August 2012). I will only begin my leave on Friday -- for many reasons:
1. I have my timetable to be finalized
2. My Closing-D-Loop Report is not complete yet.
3. I have not even peep at the new curriculum
4. Two articles to be edited.

Subhanallah .... with this long list, do you think I can begin my leave on Friday??? I am determined to complete item 1, 2 and 4. Item 3 can wait until after eid.

Everybody was looking forward to go back to their hometown. For many reasons. If the reason is to visit our elderly parents, may Allah bless us with rahmah and reward in the hereafter. There are three simple things when done will be rewarded by Allah SWT. The three things are:
1. Looking at the Baitullah
2. To look at the face of our parents (of course with love)
3. To look at the quranic verses.

Item 1, is not that easy, we are not staying in Mecca. It involves many factors in order to do this.

Item 2, might not be that easy if our parents did not stay with us. And will be impossible when they're gone (Oh ..... I miss Bapak so much).

Item 3, is the easiest thing to do. Allah Ar-Rahman, Allah the Gracious, generously giving out rewards for us to reap. How often do we race towards this??? Some ulama' were saying, when you read the surah Yassin (the most readable surah), even if you have memorize them, open your eyes to look at the kalimah for the reward that Allah has promised for those who look at the quranic verses. Ah .... easy isn't it to get the reward? Very much easier if compared to get some good grades in the exam.

'Balik kampung' will mean a journey to some of us. The distance depends on the location. In my case, to go back to Penang and Kedah will definitely call for a 4 hours highway drive on normal days and may increase to 7 to 10 hours during festive season. On journey, do not forget the other GIFT that Allah has for us. The GIFT of jama' and qasar as long as your distance is not less than 89 kilometer or 56 miles. Please accept the gift from ALLAH even if your traveling time is only 2 hours drive. How do you feel when you give someone a gift and that person rejected the gift? You will feel bad isn't it. Therefore, please sincerely accept the GIFT from Allah Ar-Rahim.

When discussing about Eid, do not forget the final 5 days that we have to earn as many reward as possible. Rasulallah SAW will perform the following during the last 10 days of Ramadhan:
1. Qiam
2. Read alQuran
3. Sadaqah
4. Be good to people (especially to our parents)

Lest's grab this golden opportunity together. Wallahua'lam.

Lailatul Qadr

Assalamualaikum dear readers,

Time flies. Today is already the 20th day of Ramadhan. It means that there are only 10 more days to go for us to be in Ramadhan 1433H. Will we see the sun shine on us for the next Ramadhan? Nobody can guarantees it. Therefore, let us grab the golden opportunities to collect the reward that Allah has promised to those who perform ibadah within these last 10 days.

Even Rasulallah SAW who was promised the jannah will not leave the last 10 days in vain. Rasulallah SAW will perform as many ibadah as he can:
  • i'tikaf (honestly it is not easy especially for muslimat)
  • read alquran
  • solat - taubat, tahajjud, hajat, tasbih and many more
  • repent
Ya Allah, I do feel sad as Ramadhan is coming to the end, but I have not fully utilized this golden opportunities into ibadah towards you. Forgive me Ya Allah. Please bestow the barakah upon us with time and health so that these remaining 10 days can be utilized into only ibadah for You. Forgive me Ya Allah, I do not want to miss the vast reward as you have promised upon the mukminin and muttaqin.

Based on hadith from Aishah RA:

Meaning: "I once asked the Prophet how to know exactly when Lailat Al-Qadr night. What I will do at that time. He replied say the following du'a.

May Allah grant our wish to be amongst the muknimin in the Jannatul Firdaus. Amin.

Atau pepatah inggeris "the grass is always greener at the other side."
"maka nikmat tuhan yang manakah yang engkau dustakan?" ~surah Ar-Rahman.

O! My Back

Assalamualaikum dear readers,

A very barakah day for us all, InsyaAllah.

O! My Back.

Well .... that is probably the sign of our aging body is crying for help. Every part requires more attention and extra care. Furthermore, it is now becoming very fragile and vulnerable to pain. That's the body that Allah has given us to care for. How did we take care of it?

When Allah, gave us life, gave us a body to live in, He wants us to take good care of it. For that, Allah had also design an approach that if we obliged to it obediently, it will be able to help us to protect ourselves from a destructive future. Destructive! A very harsh word isn't it? But, that is where we will lead our body if we do not put extra care to it.

Of the many pain and ache, why backache as the topic to discuss? My answer, as usual every morning I gain some valuable knowledge from the TV programme 'Tanyalah Ustaz' on TV9 from 0700-0800 hours. And this morning, the ustaz was talking about solat and health. From the research conducted, solat is very good for health for many reasons. Unfortunately, sorry for my poor concentration, I only grabbed this piece of information that I would like to share with you now.

For those who are experiencing back pain, ruku', a position in solat, is a good form of

physiotherapy. However, it has to be done in a proper way. It should be a 90 degree position with your head lift up a bit to be parallel with your back. According to the ustaz, whom I forgot to look at the name, a testimonial of a backache sufferer showed an improvement after three weeks of the 5-times-a-day compulsory solat. It means that if we perform more solat, compulsory + additional solat, probably it will speed-up the recovery period.

Now, with this piece of knowledge, let's strive to perform a proper solat, with added frequency (solat sunat le tu...) so that we could prevent and protect our back for a healthier and a more cheerful life.
