Let’s continue …
2. Semi D-I-Y
I called it semi D-I-Y because there are things that you must do it yourself, while the rest let the ground agent takes care of it.
Among the things that you need to do it yourself :
i- purchase the flight ticket
ii-accommodation reservation
And let the ground agent do the rest. This is also so assuring and less hassle. They will drove us wherever we want. In fact, some ground agent are kind enough to be our personal chauffeur for the day and took us for some groceries shopping even though it is not in the itinerary.
This is a blessing. This happened when we were in Perth. The ground agent was a Malaysian couple, very kind and sweet. I admire their adventurous nature. And yes, they took us around places that are not even on our itinerary. And the best thing of all, he brought us to muslim centers or masjids along our way. What a wonderful experience. So … if you are planning to go to Perth, do contact this lovely couple by the IG: beehunt_travel (hopefully they are still in this business in Perth).
3. Tour group
The third option is to follow a tour group. This the least hassle trip ever. Sit back and relax, the agent will do everything for you. From the airport, help check-in the luggage, pick-up at the airport, sitting at the hotel lobby for your room key to be delivered to you while chit chatting with your new travel mate … everything is taken care off. You just need to pay for all the services.
Pros : less hassle, make new friends, no worries about parking and such; do not need to think about what and where to eat. They will even wait for you if you need a toilet break.
Cons : you are bounded by the time and strict schedule (but some agents allow some flexibility; depending on the time and situation)
~~~~~
We have tried all the approaches, and we like it all. It depends on where you are going. If you are going to an English speaking country, perhaps you can do DIY or the semi-DIY. But if you are going to a non-English speaking country, I would prefer either semi-DIY or just following a tour group.
As we are aged, I would prefer going in a group. The support system is stronger. If you fell sick (always pray for good health), or any other mishap, the tour agent or your new travel mates will normally willing to lend a helping hand. Tight schedule? Not a problem. We are people who will try to abide to any schedule and it’s not a problem to us, inshaAllah.
Happy travelling everyone.
