The Sore Throat

Assalamualaikum all,

Alhamdulillah. I am back on my feet again today. Running for errands and house chores as usual and cracking my head with an article at the office. At times, I still felt dizzy but I will quickly take a short rest and to move slowly to encounter the problem. All are because I was on fever for the last two days. It was a bad one. The whole body was aching.

The sore throat that I mentioned in my earlier post was not due to too much talking, however it is due to a sign of tonsilitis. What is tonsilitis? It is defined as:

"Tonsillitis is an infection and swelling of the tonsils, which are oval-shaped masses of lymph gland tissue located on both sides of the back of the throat."

What is the tonsil for? From the same website it described:

"The tonsils normally help to prevent infections. They act like filters to trap bacteria and viruses entering the body through the mouth and sinuses. The tonsils also stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies to help fight off infections. Anyone of any age can have tonsillitis; however, it is most common in children between the ages of five and 10 years."

But in my case, as old as I am, I am so prone to tonsilitis. The image seen here is a google searched image. This was how my tonsil looked like when I first understand about tonsil back in 1985. I was at the hostel then, slight fever will mean nothing as we are not too keen to go to the hospital which will result in waiting for a long time, queuing at the hospital, waiting for the van to fetch us again and add to the misery and pain we are already enduring. Therefore, I simply opted for a self treatment with bought-over-the counter PCM. When the sore throat got worse, and the fever recurred, I self checked in the mirror and saw a terrifying situation and became scared of it. That is when help is wanted. After a proper treatment with antibiotic, Alhamdulillah the fever was gone.

Allah has not created something for no purpose. The tonsil is the first level of protection that the body has. What if we do not have tonsil? The first defense is out. And we need to be very cautious as when we were infected, it could be severe. That was what the doctor said when Atikah need to remove her tonsil when she was 11. Why remove the tonsil? We had to allow the doctors to remove the tonsil because she was having fever for almost every week and skipping school for every fever. Alhamdulillah she did not catch fever very often now, but we had to make sure that she took enough vitamins to protect her body.
